Mission & Outreach
The Menard County Food Pantry, an outreach of Menard Caring, is housed at Central Presbyterian Church. The Food Pantry receives strong support from the community and is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (If you have questions, please call the Menard County Housing Authority office at 217-632-7723.)
Deacons minister to our homebound members through visits, cards, phone calls, running errands, or by simply providing a listening and caring ear.
Clothing Of All Types and Sizes
In December, generous donations from the congregation make it possible for qualified teen-aged students from PORTA Jr./Sr. High to go on a special shopping trip, giving them an opportunity to purchase coats and other needed clothing items.
Twice a year, care packages are sent to the congregation's college students and to its members who are deployed in military service.
Countryside Estate Birthday Party
This annual celebration is an intergenerational activity held at an assisted living facility in the community. Congregation members provide entertainment for the residents, and all enjoy ice cream and birthday cake.
Meals on Wheels
During the month of May, Central volunteers deliver meals to Petersburg residents who participate in the Meals on Wheels Program.
Worship at Sunny Acres
The pastor, adults, and children participate in worship services for Sunny Acres Nursing Home residents on a rotating schedule with other congregations. This is coordinated through the PORTA Ministerial Association.
Central Presbyterian Church participates in ecumenical ministries with the PORTA Ministerial Association. Shared ministries include the Gospel Sing at New Salem and community-wide worship for Thanksgiving, Good Friday, and Easter Sunrise services.
Our parish nurse is available to all members of the congregation to answer health questions and concerns. Her monthly ministry includes a column in the newsletter.

As a service to the community, Central's building is available to local clubs and organizations as a meeting space. Our building is fully handicap accessible and features an updated kitchen and large fellowship hall. Scouting groups, Wildwoods dulcimer group, yoga, Menard County Madrigal Singers, Al-Anon, Parents without Partners, and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren are some organizations that have felt at home here over the years.
